Nestled amidst the
north-eastern part of India, Sikkim is a traveler’s paradise. From lofty
mountains, and sculpted valleys, to rippling rivers and breathtaking skylines, this
state exhibits an array of spectacular natural wonders carved by the almighty
himself. To this now gets added, a cherry on the cake, the very first skywalk of the country!
Situated almost adjacent to the
humungous Chenrezig statue in Pelling, this skywalk is definitely the new show
stopper in the godly state of Sikkim. Inaugurated in November 2018, this modern
architectural marvel is still fairly untouched and not much talked about. The
skywalk leads to the holy site of the Chenrezig statue, which is a manifested
portrayal of the Lord Buddha. It is a part of the Sanga Choeling Monastery
which was built around 1701 A.D. The monastery is
embellished with timeless Buddhist paintings, thangkas, and sculptures depicting
Buddha’s life. The statue is 137 feet tall and along with the skywalk, it is
definitely a must in your bucket list when you are planning for your Gangtok Pelling Ravangla Package Tour.
It would be an understatement to
conclude that the thrill of walking down an aisle made of glass, looking over
the winding and rippling Teesta, is out of this world.
One can plan a full day at this
particular spot as no amount of time looking over to the infinite stretch of the horizon from this cellophane marvel is good enough. Walking on the skywalk
would cost you a mere entry fee of Rupees 20 for the locals and Rupees 50 for
the non-locals. This place is located at a distance of
nearly 6 to 7 km from Pelling. It is on the way to Dentam. One can hire a
private car or can also opt for a more cost-effective way by taking a share
cab. One can also hop on to a bus headed for Dentam.
The best time to visit here and book your Pelling Ravangla Package Tour would be from
February to May. October also poses to be a great time. On a clear day, you can
be lucky enough to spot the Kanchenjungha as well!
