How to reach Sundarban

Sundarban is well connected by Land, Rail, Air and water network. A journey to Sundarban can be exciting as well as thrilling one whatever option you choose.


By Air:

Actually there is not any home base airport in Sundarban. The nearest airport is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. Sundarban is just 112 km or 2.30 hrs drives from Kolkata. After deboarding from flight, tourists need to go to Canning, Basanti, Gosaba or any of the starting point to hire motor launches to reach the core area of Sundarban. If any guest opted for Sundarban Package Tour, the tour operator generally takes care of the whole process i.e. picking up from Airport and then transfers them to any launching ground. By Rail :

Sundarban National Park is well connected by Rail route also. The nearest rail station located near the Sunderban National Park is Canning. It is almost 57 km or 1.30 hrs train journey. Everyday a bunch of trains run from Sealdah station to Canning by almost 1 hour interval.  It is all EMU coaches with 9 or 12 boogie with nominal comfort. There is no express or luxury sort of train between these two destinations. Heavy rush in this rail route is common scenario and the journey can be hectic also. By Road :

Sundarban is widely visited by roads. There are generally two roadways. First one from Kolkata to Sonakhali by Basanti State Expressway. This road is straight drive and almost 25 km less than Kolkata – Basanti highway. Both the roads meet near Sonakhali before being divided again in Mother Teresa Junction. From here one road heads towards Godkhali and the other one towards Jharkhali. Water way :
